Getting started

About five minutes. You need a Google account.

1. Make your copy

  1. Go to Get your copy. Google asks whether you want to make a copy.
  2. Click Make a copy. The copy, and the script that runs Grant Tracker inside it, are yours, in your Google Drive. Rename it if you like, for example "Grants 2027".

2. Open the sidebar and allow the script

  1. In your copy, open Extensions > Tidyfield Grant Tracker > Open sidebar. The menu appears a few seconds after the spreadsheet loads.
  2. Google asks you to authorize the script. Choose your account. Google then shows "Google hasn't verified this app". Click Advanced, then Go to Tidyfield Grant Tracker (unsafe), read the list of permissions and click Allow. Why Google shows this.
  3. Open Extensions > Tidyfield Grant Tracker > Open sidebar again. The sidebar opens on the right.

3. Set up the tracker

  1. Pick the month your fiscal year starts and how it is named (by the year it ends or the year it starts).
  2. Tick the box to add 3 example grants if you want to see how it fits together first. You can remove them later in one click.
  3. Click Set up. Your tabs appear: Dashboard, Grants, Deadlines, Funders, Payments and Lists, plus an Activity log.

4. Add your grants

Use the sidebar's Add tab, or type straight into the Grants and Deadlines tabs. New rows get an ID and their calculated columns as you type. To move an existing tracker in, see Import an old tracker.

5. Turn on reminders and the calendar

Open the bell icon to set up the daily reminder email, and the calendar icon to create the shared calendar. Both run with your Google account, even when the spreadsheet is closed.

You can add your own columns and formulas, rename tabs and move columns. Please do not rename the column headers Grant Tracker created; it uses them to find its columns.
